Aylor Replacement Project Update - September 26, 2018

During a meeting of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors on September 26, 2018, the Supervisors held a public hearing and subsequent vote on a motion to provide an additional $7.5 million dollars for the construction of the replacement Robert E. Aylor Middle School for which the Supervisors appropriated $45.5 million on August 8, 2018. The Board of Supervisors voted 4-3 against providing the additional funding. Had the additional funding been approved, the School Board would have had the total funds initially requested for the project in February 2018, plus an inflation factor, and would have been able to build a school to accommodate 900 students that would be comparable in size to Admiral Richard E. Byrd Middle School (approximately 160,000 square feet).
