The Strategic Plan Portrait Design Team, which includes teachers, administrators, parents, and business/community leaders met for the second time on November 29 to continue working to develop the Portrait of a Graduate and update the school division’s Strategic Plan. The team developed a draft set of competencies a Frederick County Public Schools' graduate must attain in order to be successful in whatever they choose to pursue following graduation from high school. The draft included:
- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
- Collaboration
- Empathy/Social and Cross-Cultural Skills
- Communication
- Flexibility and Adaptability/Resilience
- Metacognition/Learning How to Learn
- Creativity and Innovation
The team has also started working with the facilitators from EdLeader 21 and Battelle for Kids to develop a visual to represent the FCPS Portrait of a Graduate. Following the Strategic Plan Portrait Design Team meeting, the Strategic Plan Executive Business Focus Group met for the first time. The group, which includes a variety of executive level business leaders from across the community, was briefed on the work involved with developing the Portrait of a Graduate and was asked to provide feedback and perspectives on the skills students need in order to be successful in the future.
